In Poland, industrial design grew out of the tradition of applied art to be constituted as a separate field of creativity at the turn of the '70s of the last century. Thus, by definition, this type of activity, industrial design is the design of models (patterns) of market products for industrial production. Not observing the differences between the separateness of his essence and other fields of creativity, too often leads to giving him the names of applied arts, artistic craftsmanship or object art, obscuring the image of his social identification.
Industrial design as an area of interaction between production, consumption and culture clearly fits into the strategy of economic development. It is therefore a factor stimulating economic development and the export of industrial production.
