This course focuses on the application of design thinking and innovation to solve complex problems in a variety of contexts. Through a series of design challenges, students will learn how to integrate research, user-centered design, and prototyping to create innovative solutions that address real-world needs.

The course will explore different design methodologies and tools, including user research, design ethnography, ideation, sketching, and rapid prototyping. It will also emphasize collaboration, communication, and project management skills, as students work in teams to develop and present their design solutions.

In addition to practical skills, the course will also address the social and ethical implications of design, and encourage students to consider the broader impact of their work on society and the environment. Through case studies, readings, and guest lectures, students will engage in critical reflection and dialogue on the role of design in contemporary society.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

Assessment:

Assessment in this course will be based on a combination of individual and group assignments, presentations, critiques, and a final project. Students will be evaluated on their ability to apply design thinking and innovation to solve complex problems, as well as their collaboration, professionalism, and engagement with the wider design community. Attendance and participation are also essential components of the course.
